I decided that for the fourth installment of the E3 report I would get into the recruiting aspect a little more. This wasn’t done in online dynasty because that mode isn’t available but I figure they will largely be similar.
The biggest change to recruiting above all else must be the addition of a difficulty slider. What I wanted to figure out is, what exactly becomes harder as you move the slider up? The answer, in short, is “everything.”
I talked with Russ Kiniry about the ins and outs of the difficulty setting. The first thing I noticed while playing was that as you move the difficulty setting up you get fewer “outs” per call (changes of topic). At the default (varsity) setting you get three changes of topic per call. Move it to All American, and you get two. On Heisman, it’s one.
The higher the setting, the better the cpu is at getting points during each call. According to Kiniry they re-organize and re-prioritize their board more often, removing players they have no shot at, and jumping on other players more quickly.
It’s also harder to actually get a recruit to commit on a harder setting, as well. This appears to be a great feature allowing us to further customize our leagues here at Tradition Football.
I also spoke with Kiniry about the role luck versus skill now plays in recruiting. Although you will occasionally earn a “coaches’ choice” to allow you to select the first topic during a call… I have not figured out when or why this happens. The rest of the time you will be at the mercy of the random draw. Kiniry indicated that the ability to maximize the use of “outs” which include not only topic changes but promises, scholarship offers, and swaying, will largely separate good recruiters from average ones. So while luck will definitely play a role, Kiniry said that players will develop techniques and styles that will be just as important as the luck of the draw.
Also, Ben Haumiller has confirmed functionality to host multiple dynasties up to a total of five per person. This feature will be offered as downloadable content. As far as I understand it, this will be a flat rate to host multiple dynasties up to five (5).
I’d like to thank Russ, Ben, and Greg for all of their help during this visit to E3. They’ve put up with my loitering and questions, and I appreciate it! I salute you!
